Post Host - Next Steps

ICFAR would like to thank all of you who were able to attend Temporary Host and for your contributions to the conversations at the event and on this site. We are now looking at how projects and themes can be further developed, drawing from discussions held at the October Gallery and online.  We are keen to maintain the momentum of this site as a focus for the further exploration of possible projects and collaborations raised by Temporary Host. We hope that both registered and new users to the site will continue to contribute to the dialogue. You can read and comment on the topics and related posts:

You can also use the forums to suggest new ways of moving the fine art research agenda forward.

Blogging and Micro-blogging

As I see it, two different blog activities are happening on this website – blogging and micro-blogging.  I appreciate the stream of consciousness benefits of micro-blogging. I’m concerned that when the two are mixed together, users needs to do a lot of scrolling and clicking through, information overload. Thoughts?

Reflections on yesterday

From the two tables I attended yesterday I was enthused by the range and depth of the discussions. Events such as these are often challenging as there is a great deal to fit in during a short time frame. That said, it was a real education for me into the kinds of research topics that are undertaken in relation to practice, studio models and exhibitions as a representation in time and space of the latent and sometimes reflective existence of the artist.

Fashion and maths - Lorenz style

In a test blog on this site, Pat Naldi wrote that "Quiet calm deliberation disentangles every knot!" .  This reminded me of an radio program I heard recently which talked about an amazing fusion between fashion and maths. Scientists have discovered that crochet can be used to model chaos.

The outcome, known as the Lorenz manifold, is one of the funkiest hat ideas I have seen in a while.

OK here we are then!

Just getting sorted out at the start of the symposium. Great group of people, good venue, ready to get started!

Website

The Temporary Host website is conceived as a research experiment.  We invite you to read, participate, share and feedback to us about your experiences.  In creating an interactive site we are paralleling the functionality of many of the popular social networking sites such as Facebook, Myspace, Youtube and Flickr.  The community and exchange aspects of these sites is powerful and effective and works well for the intended users.&nb

Temporary Host – Display Table

We will be setting up a table of artists’ books, catalogues, leaflets and other ephemera for the general interest of delegates attending Temporary Host. This display would be for browsing only; any sale of publications would have to be transacted independently of ICFAR, however the display will be appropriately presented, and there will be opportunities to browse at intervals during both days.

If you, or your organisation, wish to contribute to this table presentation please either bring material along on the19th or mail, care of myself, to:

About ICFAR

ICFAR is one of eight research centres at the University of the Arts London, and the only centre specifically focused on fine art practice based research. While research at UAL is principally conducted through colleges, and doctoral students are admitted through colleges, ICFAR’s role is to work across the University, as an active hub for collaborative research and the generation of new kinds of connectivity.
