Archiving as an exhibitionSubmitted by Geoff Laycock on Fri, 20/06/2008 - 14:04Digital representation of an artists work through an online archive is often seen by the artist as a very public, exhibition type, outing into the public sphere. As a result the function of the archive as a representation of the past comes into an interesting conflict with the way an artist may want to shape how their past work is perceived today. »

However the key to preventing these practicality issues in the future is to encourage today’s practitioners to archive as they go. »

Now, with mash-up (online technology combination methodology) websites it is possible for the digital preservation responsibility to rest with the many rather than a single resource. Notions of ownership are key in facilitating that resolution. 360 degree perspectiveSubmitted by Nicola Percy on Fri, 20/06/2008 - 13:27360 degree perspective - recording context context first (Geoff) - people often look at the flat version first intellectual and methodological tools that can be applied to archives believe history is ending - who are we preserving it for?
